Skin IQ™ Microclimate Manager

Skin IQ Microclimate Manager (MCM) is a fluid resistant, vapor-permeable, single-patient-use mattress cover that works in conjunction with a pressure redistribution mattress to help prevent and treat pressure ulcers. Powered by Negative Airflow Technology (NAT), Skin IQ MCM continually draws excess moisture away from the skin/mattress interface and helps control skin temperature.

Effective for patients
  • Provides outstanding moisture vapor transfer rate (MVTR) of 130 (g/m2)/hr1 — greater than the average (97.7 (g/m2)/hr) for conventional low air loss (LAL) surfaces2
  • Helps reduce shear and friction.3
  • Helps improve patient comfort — In a healthy human study of 16 subjects, when Skin IQ MCM was used on a pressure redistribution surface, it significantly improved the subjects level of comfort.2
Effective for Health Care Providers
  • Can be stocked in the facility for early intervention — which may help reduce the length of a patient’s hospital stay.4
  • Offers ease-of-use with quick, intuitive setup and maintenance
  • Helps facilitate patient bed ingress and egress with a low profile design (1/4" thick mattress cover)
Features & Benefits

Skin IQ Microclimate Manager
  • Provides Outstanding Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate
    • Skin IQ MCMs moisture vapor transfer rate of 130 (g/m2)/hr1 is greater than the average (97.7 (g/m2)/hr) for conventional low air loss (LAL) surfaces.2
  • Offers Excellent Moisture Removal
    • Bench studies show that Skin IQ MCM removes 3.8 times more moisture at the skin/mattress interface than the same mattress without Skin IQ MCM.3
  • May Help Reduce Skin Maceration
    • By removing excess moisture from the skin/mattress interface, Skin IQ MCM may help reduce the incidence of periwound maceration.4,5
  • Reduces Temperature at Skin/Mattress Interface
    • Bench studies show that NAT reduces temperature at the skin/mattress interface by more than 1°C in 45 minutes.2 This translates to a 10% reduction in tissue metabolism rate6.
  • Reduces Shear and Friction
    • Bench studies show that Skin IQ MCMs top layer material reduces shear and friction to help prevent and treat pressure ulcers.7
  • Helps Control Odor
    • Bench studies show that NAT significantly reduces odor at the skin/mattress interface when compared to the same surface without airflow.8
  • Helps Improve Patient Comfort
    • Skin IQ MCM helps maintain patient comfort. In a healthy human study of 16 subjects, when Skin IQ MCM was used on a pressure redistribution surface, it significantly improved the subjects level of comfort.1
  • Provides a Bacterial and Viral Barrier
    • The top layer of Skin IQ MCM is a bacterial and viral barrier.9
  • Contains Bacteriocidal Properties
    • All layers of Skin IQ MCM contain a bacteriocidal agent.10
  • Reduces S. aureus Growth
    • Bench studies show that NAT reduces Staphylococcus aureus growth by 2.24 logs during a 24-hour period when compared to a hospital bed sheet.11
  • Doesnt Diminish Pressure Redistribution Effectiveness
    • Pressure mapping testing shows that Skin IQ MCM does not diminish the pressure redistribution properties of the underlying mattress.12
  • May Help Reduce Risk of Entrapment
    • Skin IQ MCM is designed to fit tightly on a pressure redistribution mattress. This design eliminates the possibility of a gap between the mattress and bed frame or side rail, which may happen if an undersized overlay is placed on top of a mattress.
  • Offers Early Intervention
    • The immediate availability of Skin IQTM MCM allows for early intervention, which may help reduce the length of a patients hospital stay.13

Product Usage

Indications
The Skin IQ MCM is indicated for use in conjunction with a pressure redistribution surface in order to aid in the prevention and treatment of skin breakdown and pressure ulcers for patients who require microclimate management of the skin.

Contraindications
Although Skin IQ MCM has no associated direct contraindications, the caregiver should refer to and follow any contraindications in the product labeling for the pressure redistribution surface and/or bed frame being used with the Skin IQ MCM.

Our products and therapies have specific indications, contraindications, safety information and instructions for use. Please consult product labeling and instructions for use prior to use.
